Tamasha review - Different, but not that good.

Its the journey of a guy - Ved (Ranbir Kapoor) who grows up listening to stories and ends up doing tamasha at each and every place. The difficulties that he faces due to this habit & how a girl - Tara (Deepika Padukone) falls in love with him in between leading to self-realization. It encourages you to 'follow your dreams' & that, 'love has the power to change you'. 

The director (Imtiaz Ali) tries to tell this story differently in a non-linear way with songs poping out in the middle and a hook of tamasha. Which doesn't work out for me and it becomes kinda sloppy towards the end. The writing (Imtiaz Ali) could have been crisper and more engaging as the concept is interesting, but is not translated into a good screenplay. The editing(Aarti Bajaj) is different and non-linear. Its not that great in my opinion though. The music (A.R.Rahman) is good, especially the emotional track 'Agar tum saath ho'. Its a nice mix of tracks. The film looks like a travelogue with good landscapes and wide shots thanks to the cinematographer (S.Ravi Varman). Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are good actors, but the characterization is a bit complicated. They do own emotional scenes  making you feel sad for them. 

A film that is different for sure and unconventional storytelling. 

Watch it - you might love it or you might hate it. 

'Main Aur Charles' Review - A Stylish Bio-pic

The biography of a psycho serial killer, 'Charles Shobraj'(Randeep Hooda), who's smart and a playboy, with a monk like attitude; who manages to escape from the prison in broad daylight shattering the police force of India.

The life of Charles is very interesting and has various layers to the character itself. But, the writing (Prawaal Raman) is not that compelling and the screenplay could've been much tighter and revealing. The director (Prawaal Raman) creates visually beautiful frames and the non-linear narrative style adds to the movie. He makes it stylish and the character stays with you. The film is visually good looking, thanks to the cinematographer(Anuj Dhawan) & art director (Jitendra Kava). I didn't liked the editing personally. Too much unnecessary jump cuts in between didn't worked for me. The story moves too fast at some places and so, storytelling isn't that smooth. Randeep Hooda adds that charm and mystery to the character, he looks dashing, adapts the accent very well and his rough voice adds to it and makes Charles Shobraj a stylish con-man & irre. Richa Chadda has a small part to play and she does it with ease. The police officer (Adil Hussain) plays his part damn good, also other actors have acted well.

A stylishly told serial killer flick set in 1960s.
Charles Shobraj's life is damn interesting, if you aren't aware of his life, do watch it for sure. 

Martian review - Inspiring struggle for survival

The journey of Mark Watney who gets stuck on Mars, alone... when his teammates leaves him behind due to a storm on Mars & how he tries to defy all odds on a inhabited planet and his strong will to survive and go back home. 

This is one hell of a concept. The direction (Ridley scott) is good and gripping throughout, not extraordinary though (if you are expecting something like gravity) . The music (Harry Gregson) is amazing and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The movie being in 3d, adds to it. Makes it visually stunning and even more interesting. The cinematography (Dariusz Wolski) is good. Its a visual treat. The writing (Drew Goddard & Andy Weir) is good, but not legendary. Characters are well defined. What keeps you hooked throughout the movie is Lead Actor (Matt Damon) . You feel sorry for him, you laugh when he laughs, you cry when he cries. Kickass acting by him, even by the supporting cast and his astronaut teammates. 

Go for it. Not something to be missed. 
His will to survive on a stranded planet will leave you thinking about your existence on this planet. 

Steve Jobs: Man in the Machine (Documentary) Review – Blunt, Hard hitting & Honest Portrayal.

It Explores each and every phase of Steve Jobs’s life. Starting from his Childhood to finding Enlightenment to creating ‘Apple’ from scratch.

The direction is gripping and very detailed. Alex Gibney (Director) makes it so interesting and reveals many untold truth about ‘The Great Steve Jobs’. He builds the image, he trashes it. His vision is brilliant and unbiased. The editing is crisp and very gripping, also peaceful when needed. Michael Palmer (Editor) makes a kickass film out of archive footages. The Music is bang on. Its pacy, dramatic and energetic, at the same time its soothing in places and relaxing... 

It'll shatter the image of Steve Jobs that you already possess, guaranteed !

Masaan Review - Simple, Brutal, Pleasant & Soulful.

Its about the journey of 3 people; Devi Pathak (Richa Chadda) - who's recovering after her boyfriend's death, Deepak Chaudhary (Vicky Kaushal) - who burns dead bodies for money, falls in love with an upper caste girl and Vidyadhar Pathak - Devi's dad (Sanjay Mishra) - who is very concerned about her image in the society and his struggles in doing so. 3 parallel lives passing by simultaneously in Benaras, along the shore of river Ganga.

The director (Neeraj G.) keeps it very simple and doesn't try too hard to impress the audience. Their Life just passes right in front of you; it makes you cry, laugh, smile, emotional, sad, angry & fall in love with them. Cinematographer Avinash Arun treats every frame very delicately and makes it look very natural; almost like a painting. Exploring the dark parts of Benaras as well. Writing is good - keeps it raw & real. The music is peaceful and has that connect with you...Casting is perfect & Acting is very natural from all the actors, being the soul of 'Masaan'.  All of this comes together beautifully, creating something wonderful. The language, accent, characters, look and feel of the movie, stays with you...

A movie to be felt, not watched. It'll stay with you...

Its Beautiful, but may not be for everyone... You need to be a cinema lover to appreciate it. 

Poltergeist Review - Scary & Damn Interesting for a Horror flick!

Its the story about a family [ Father (Eric), Mother (Amy), their daughters (Kendra & madison) and a son (Griffin)] who gets shifted to the new place and the 'poltergeist' takes the little daughter Madison (kennedi clements) and how they try to get her back with the help of ghost hunters.

The story sounds very cliché but the screenplay is very interesting and unexpected and it gives you the chills, believe me! One of the best horrors - content wise hands down !! I usually don't like horrors mainly because of the cliché storyline and usual horror trickery, but i was surprised by this movie and it had me gripped throughout.  The director Gil kenan recreates poltergeist with style. He has a very strong idea of what people expects and the writers David Lindsay - Abaire grips you throughout and they succeed in shocking the hell out of you. The music too is cool, doesn't try too hard, still effective.

Its scary, its amazing, it'll give you nightmares and its stylish !

An Interesting horror film after a while, didn't expected it to be this amazing...

Piku Review - An Amazing Journey ! :)

Its about a journey that Piku (Deepika Padukone) a working single daughter who takes care of her father , Rana Chaudhary (Irrfan Khan) the owner of Call  Cab Service & Bhaskor (Amitabh Bachchan) an old frustrated father suffering constipation; embarks upon & how this journey from delhi to kolkata changes their life.

The Screenplay is very raw, funny & witty, the conversations revolves around shit, still it makes you laugh throughout, there's not a single point when it dims down. The conversations seems very natural as if you're sitting at your house with these characters. The Acting is just fabulous; Amitabh Bachchan steals the show as a constipated chid-chida Uncle, Deepika padukone is blunt & charming at the same time, Irrfan Khan plays it effortlessly with brilliant comic timing as always. Director captures the journey with his heart and it shows. Each & every character is so lively & have a life of his own, which makes you wanna tag along this journey with them. It is visually very pleasing to the eyes. There's a calmness & a sense of peace to the movie.

Melodious, Lively & a Happy Journey with Amazing Characters.

Go for this journey along with them, you'll love it !

Badlapur Review - Good, but a bit overrated.

The movie is about Raghu (varun dhawan) whose family gets killed & is seeking revenge throughout, planning to destroy the person (Nawazzuddin) who killed his wife & son. 

No doubt its a good movie. The direction is raw & gripping. The performances are intense & commendable, especially Varun dhawan & Nawazzuddin siddique. But, writing is a bit lazy and you don't feel that connected. The performances hold the viewers and not the script itself. The screenplay could have been more ruthless and engaging. The music is soulful & aggressive, which is perfect for the film. 

Its the journey of Raghu seeking revenge. 

Its an experience. Go for the performances & for the director 'sriram raghavan' !

Margarita with a straw review - Beautiful, Lively, Honest & Inspiring :)

Its the journey of a College girl 'Laila' suffering from celebral palsy; about how she falls in love, handles rejections, manages her sex life, explores her sexuality, faces everything with a smile on her face.

I loved  the screenplay of the movie as the writer focuses on the everyday life & those little things  that she goes through & How the writer shows her journey as if she's a normal college girl dealing with her problems & heartbreaks & not focusing mostly on the disability/ emotional aspect of it. The Direction is very good & shows that the director is a very good observer of the subject and the chores of subject. It feels like as if you are peeking through someone's life. Music is soothing & energetic; gives a warm feel to the movie.

Very simple, yet impactful.

You will leave with a smile on your face.

Beauty of Life - Joshua Bell's(American Grammy Award-winning violinist) True story

A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that 1,100 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.
Three minutes went by, and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace, and stopped for a few seconds, and then hurried up to meet his schedule.
A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping, and continued to walk.
A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.
The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried, but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally, the mother pushed hard, and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.
In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money, but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.
No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the most talented musicians in the world. He had just played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, on a violin worth $3.5 million dollars.
Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.
This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste, and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context?

One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be:
If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?

There's no formula behind the success of a LEGEND,

All what they did, back then, for the 1st time, was an EXPERIMENT !!
